RESULTS SUMMARY
5 results were found with maximum acceptable error of 2 %.
You have requested a metric thread with 5 mm pitch.
This requires an equivalent imperial thread with 5.08 TPI
2% error in 10 turns of thread gives absolute error = 1 mm
No.

If the gears should fit together easily they are marked with **.
Results with # symbols have low errors (#<0.10%, ##<0.05%, ###<0.01%).
STATISTICS
476 gear train combinations were evaluated.
476 full calculations were performed
5 results were found.
1.05 % of calculations were successful at finding a solution.
0.009 seconds of computer time were required.
LATHE SETUP
No gearbox fitted
Lathe Type = imperial
Thread Type= metric
There is one compound gear in this gear train.
Automatic Compound gears have been requested.
The list of compound gears is not used in automatic mode.
Only the list of change gears is used to make up compound gears.
Some lathes (eg Boxford & Myford) require an adapter to make compound pairs.
The leadscrew has 8 TPI (It can be changed in OPTIONAL ENTRIES or STEP 2).
MAXIMUM AND MINIMUM VALUES
These are the maximum and minimum values that can be acheived
with the current gear train design and gears.
Minimum Pitch = 0.2032mm or 0.008 inches
Maximum Pitch = 49.6094mm or 1.9531 inches
Minimum TPI = 0.512 Threads Per Inch
Maximum TPI = 125 Threads Per Inch
Minimum Gear Train Ratio = 0.064
Maximum Gear Train Ratio = 15.625
Minimum Cross Feed Rate = 0.0203mm or 0.0008 inches
Maximum Cross Feed Rate = 4.9609mm or 0.1953 inches
Minimum Carriage Feed Rate = 0.0691mm or 0.0027 inches
Maximum Carriage Feed Rate = 16.8672mm or 0.6641 inches
EQUATIONS FOR THREADS PER INCH
Equation used to calculate Threads Per Inch (TPI) without a gearbox
TPI = Leadscrew / GTR
Where Leadscrew is in TPI.
GTR is the gear train gear ratio.
Gear ratios are calculated by dividing the number of teeth on a 'driving' gear
by the number of teeth on the 'driven' gear.
Generally the first gear is the stud gear which is a 'driving' gear.
The last gear is the 'leadscrew gear' which is 'driven'.
Between these gears there may be one or two pairs of compound gears or an idler gear.
Idler gears have no effect on the gear ratio (see the help file).
This gear train includes one pair of compound gears called Comp1 and Comp2.
GTR= StudGear/Comp1 . Comp2/LeadscrewGear
Any compound pair can be replaced in some cases by an idler gear and
GTR = StudGear/LeadscrewGear
DRAW can be used to display a drawing of the gear train
The two numbers marked FYI can be multiplied to get TPI.
When requesting a metric thread the pitch is converted to TPI.
Always check your setup by making a scratch pass before deep cuts.
